Transforming the public sector
The public sector is a key sector in every economy. In Germany, for example, it has an annual budget of €1.5 trillion and employs more than 5 million people. Areas of responsibility range from security and health, education and infrastructure to culture and welfare.
The sector is currently facing fundamental challenges, such as rising social and health care costs driven by an aging society, the transformation to a green economy in light of global warming, and an increasing defense budget in response to the Ukraine crisis. At the same time, there is tremendous potential to increase efficiency, apply new technologies like digital platforms and AI, and enter partnerships with the private sector to relocate responsibilities, but also to fill funding gaps.
